Valerian root acts as a mild sedative to send you off to sleep and red shiso adds the flavor. Used in Chinese medicine for digestion, circulation, and the common cold; shiso’s warm notes combine well with the maple and a touch of tart from apple cider vinegar. The shiso adds deep notes of red wine but also supports the immune system (rosmarinic acid is an immunomodulator), the circulatory system (flavonoids are beneficial for the vessels), and aids digestion (bitter principle).
Take 1 tablespoon 30 minutes before bed in hot water for tea or make a spritz with sparkling water.
